Jan Brazda was the son of Czech artist Oskar "Oki" Brázda and Swedish writer Amelie Posse.
He studied art at the Prague Academy under Sakub Obrovsky (1934-1939). In the 1950s, he worked with Ralph Bergholtz to develop the so-called high-firing technique for stained glass. Both exhibited together at H55 and the Röhsska Museum in 1955. Jan Brazda created several stained-glass windows for churches and the entrance to the Röhsska Museum, and illustrated the complete edition of his mother's books in 1946.
He has designed sets for productions of Wagner's works at the Royal Theater in Stockholm and the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. Additional set design assignments include Covent Garden in London, Lyric Opera in Chicago and Teatr Wielki - Opera Narodowa in Warsaw.
Jan Brazda had a solo exhibition at Waldemarsudde from September to November 1981 and another at the Centre International du Vitrail de Chartres from April 1 to October 29, 1995.
He is represented at the Waldemarsudde National Museum, the Skissernas Museum, the Länsmuseet Gävleborg and the Värmlands Museum in Karlstad, the Kalmar Art Museum and several regional museums. Brazda is buried in Snårestad cemetery.
