Saint-Omer / seal, cachet Two hollowed-out bronze ink stamps - Lot 310
Saint-Omer / seal, cachet Two hollowed-out bronze ink stamps "Juge de paix à Saint-Omer (sud)" (Justice of the peace in Saint-Omer (south)) with three fleur-de-lys in the center, the legend punctuated by a fleurette, fitted with an original turned walnut handle, Restoration period circa 1815-1830, no handle. Justices of the peace were local jurisdictions set up in France in 1790. The aim was to provide citizens with a closer, more efficient form of justice, in parallel with the classic justice system: fast, free and fair, heir to the Seigneurial justice of the Ancien Régime.
